Al D'Amato
Alfonse Martello D’ Amato became a Republican Senator who served his country and the State of New York from 1981 to 1999. Senator D’Amato jump started his career in politics with a law degree from Syracuse University. Pushing toward his strong political beliefs,
Al D’Amato held his first appointed position as Public Administrator in Nassau County. He worked closely with the courts and the administrative offices of the county helping manage assets of county residents who died without wills.
As an example of something that Senator Al D'Amato believes in, he holds records for the second and the seventh longest filibusters recorded in the Senate of the United States. In 1986 this recorded event involved a military bill that lasted 23 hours, and 30 minutes. In 1992 he did it again, recording another filibuster against a tax bill which lasted 15 hours, and 14 minutes.
Senator D’Amato has focused much of his attention to the gay and lesbian community. His feelings about the issues of equality are fairly distributed. There have been many questions asked during his years in office regarding the issues of could and should gays and lesbians be allowed to serve our country?
Alphonso Damato believes strongly that these gay and lesbian communities are treated equally and fairly, which further explains his commitment to push for equality for these groups of people.
